Pirovac
The beginnings of organized tourism date back to the mid-fifties. About 20 restaurants offer fish and meat specialities; during the tourist season local caterers organize regular seafood fiestas on Saturday evenings. Sports fishing enthusiasts may enjoy fishing at Vransko Lake, which hides capital speci-mens of pike, catfish and carp.

Traditional events include the singing contest, the First Voice of Pirovac and the Pirovac Night, held at the peak of the tourist season. A very special occasion is also the feast of St. George, patron saint of Pirovac (23rd of April) and the feast day of Our Lady of Karmen (16th of April). Pirovac is the Dalmatian capital of indoor football, with an important competition held every summer.

PIROVAC, a village and harbour 26 km northwest of Sibenik. It was first mentioned in 1298 under the name Zlosela (Pirovac since 1921). It is located in the lowland dominated by the elevation of Sveti Marko (St. Mark) (65 m). Arable land is largely under the vineyards and the broader coastal belt northwest of Pirovac is chiefly covered with forests. Chief occupations are farming, viticulture, shipping, fishing and tourism. The village is located on the main road (M2, E65). The harbour is protected from all winds except the southerly ones; yachts drawing up to 2 m may dock along the pier.

In the early Middle Ages, Pirovac was an estate of the Bribir counts of Subic. In the 17th century a part of the population fled from the Turks toward the island of Murter. - The defence wall, erected around 1505 by Petar Draganic, has been partly preserved in the village. The parish church of St. George from 1506 was restored in Baroque style in the 18th century. The graveyard chapel of the Draganic-Vrancic family features a Gothic sarcophagus with a relief made in 1447 by Andrija Budcic from Sibenik and Lorenzo Pincino from Venice, according to the sketches by Juraj Dalmatinac (George the Dalmatian). Roman artefacts have been found on the islet of Sveti Stjepan (St. Stephen) (Sustipanac) in front of the village; here are also the -ruins of a Franciscan monastery (from 1511), which was abandoned in 1807.
